Out and About in Newquay, North Cornwall This holiday town is packed with great activities and attractions if you want to get out and about. We have included a short list of places we think are worth a visit: -
Beaches Fistral and Little Fistral, Newquays most famous beach. Great for surfing, life guards on duty in the summer months. Designated swimming/bodyboarding areas. The new Fistral surf complex opened last year and provides year round shower facilities, shops, snacks, surf hire and evening meals. Newqay
Bay (The Harbour,Towan Beach, Great Western Beach Watergate
Bay, Beautiful sandy beach that stretches right out alond the coast.
Perfect for surfing, swimming and other sports such as kite boarding
and kite jumping. Its also great for relaxing. Watergate has 2 large
car parks within easy walking distance and a surf center for board/wetsuit
hire, bar, snacks etc. Crantock, this beach is a bit further away near the village of crantock (about 6 miles) Great for surfing and sea fishing. The Gannel Estuary, great for walks along the tidal river, many species of bird and other wildlife. Leads to Crantock beach. Newquay
Harbour, traditional fishing harbour. regularly frequented by seals. Attractions in Newquay: Newquay Zoo, centrally located. A great place to take the kids or just to have a look around. open 7 days a week, all year round from 9.30 am. The Aquarium, located on the seafront by the harbour. See the varieties of Cornish sea life and watch the sharks in the glass underwater tunnel, well worth a visit. Tunnels Through Time, a museum journey through Cornish history and folklore. Great for all the family, open from Easter to October. Newquay Train, a road train that will take you all around Newquay town in the summer months. Golf Course, overlooking Fistral Beach. There is also crazy golf and putting. Trenance Gardens & Boating Lake, set in Newquays beautiful gardens. Hire a boat, feed the ducks or just relax by the water. Newquay Water World, indoor fun pool with 60' water flume and slides. Heath and fitness studio. Open all year round. Watersports including a dive center, kite boarding, surf hire and lessons and much more. Book in advance during the summer months. Horse riding, lessons and hacks available from Newquays many riding stables. Book in advance during the summer months - Trenance Riding Stables: Tel: 01637 872699 Attractions near Newquay: The Eden Project, near St Austell. Easily accessible from Newquay by car or the Eden project bus that runs every day from Newquay. Open all year. St Ives, visit the beautiful costal resort and harbour. Excellent art galleries. The lost gardens of Heligan, layed out in 1780 and rediscovered in 1990. Food & drink: The Headland Hotel, Fistral View Road. This is a superb place to eat, with fantastic views of Fistral beach and the surf. Eat throughout the day in the glass conservatory or pop in for an evening meal. Wetherspoons, in the town center. Very reasonably priced food and drinks The Fort, Newquay town center. Pub with great sea views and food. Senior Dicks!, great mexican food all year round. Located in the high street Indian Summer, Located in the high street, fantastic indian food to eat in the restaurant or take away. The Red Lion Pub, at the Fistral end of the high street, nice pub grub, get there early at the weekends as they stop serving food at 9pm The Mermain Pub: overlooking Porth Beach, just outside Newquay. Good food at a reasonable price. Nightclubs & bars: Sailors, in the town center, pub upstairs and nightclub downstairs. The Beach, night club, in the town center. Tall Trees, night club, just outside the town. The Chy, trendy bar and resturant. Great food and music. In the day you can sit outside and admire the views across Newquay bay. By night listen to great music on the comfy sofas. The Walkabout, Australasian theme bar, huge sports screen, great food. Club dance floor open in the evenings. |
